The largest alpine lake in North America, Lake Tahoe—surrounded by the snow-capped Sierra Nevada—offers year-round outdoor recreation. In the summer, kayaking, windsurfing, hiking, and mountain biking are popular. Head to nearby Reno, the “Biggest Little City in the World,” to hop between restaurants, bars, and casinos.
In the winter, visit nearby Northstar Ski Resort for beginner-friendly terrain or Squaw Valley Ski Resort for an expansive resort with dozens of trails. Not in the mood to ski? The Squaw Valley Cable Car whisks passengers 2,000 feet up the mountain to High Camp, where you can grab lunch and soak up panoramic Tahoe views.

Forecasting Your Lake Tahoe Vacation
Overall, Tahoe's weather is clear and beautiful, with low humidity and close to 300 days of sunshine per year. Summer temperatures often reach the mid- to high 70s, while winter months see temperatures dip into the 20s and 30s. Winter storms can roll in from late September through May, due to Lake Tahoe’s elevation at 6,250 feet.
